Abrek Zaur (dir. Boris Mikhin, 1926) is a Soviet silent Red Western that tells the story of highlanders, led by Zaur-bek, resisting Tsarist authorities in the mid-19th century. The real-life prototype of the protagonist was Zaur Ambalov, a native of the Ossetian village of Kakadur in the Dargavs Gorge. The film’s historical setting is Ossetia.
