The program of Sounds of Abkhazia event includes the premiere screening of a film by French filmmaker Vincent Moon in collaboration with the Ored Recordings label, and the presentation of the zine Uaredboros, prepared by Aslan Zantaria and the SKLAD_ team.
The film Sounds of Abkhazia grew out of a 2013 expedition, during which Vincent Moon, together with musicians and researchers from Ored Recordings, documented traditional music in Abkhazia. It features recordings made in the Pitsunda Cathedral with the State Choir of Abkhazia, performances by the ensemble Gunda, pieces on the acharpyn, songs accompanied by the apkhyartsa, as well as other forms of traditional and contemporary expression. Years later, this material formed the basis of an album of the same name and has now been transformed into a video work, which we will present in Sukhum for the first time.
The zine Uaredboros was conceived as a space to document and reflect on the project. It includes interviews with expedition participants, essays, and photographs from that period.
Following the screening, there will be a Q&A with Bulat Khalilov (Ored Recordings), joining online.
