The Sharing Stories project aims to explore storytelling, drawing and publishing as artistic tools for promoting exchange — both between generations and across borders.
The first edition of the artasfoundation project series Sharing Stories took place in October 2024 in collaboration with the Monterana School (Degersheim) and the Dogo Residence (Lichtensteig). This collaboration continued in September 2025 and was extended to the school and community in Arasadzykh and the local art space and art community in Sukhum, as well as to the digital space, as it was not possible for artists with Swiss passports to travel to Abkhazia. These external circumstances, which prevented the group of artists from working together in the second part of the project and forced them to work in their own countries, had a significant impact on the project. The artists developed various strategies for collaboration: workshops were held in parallel, materials were shared and reused, intensive communication took place and, finally, the digital space was incorporated through the creation of a website.
In the project, eleven artists and children/young people from Abkhazia and Toggenburg used artistic means to explore the theme of Sharing Stories. Using various methods such as writing, drawing, collages, zine-making, audio and video recordings, they created oral, visual and acoustic documentation. These materials, as well as physical letters and small objects, were shared with the children and young people from the other region, explored there and in turn served as material for further artistic creations.
