The film is based on a real court case: a man impersonates the famous Iranian director Mohsen Mahmalbaf and convinces a family to take him for an artist. When the deception is uncovered, the case goes to court. Kiarostami films the participants in this story, asking them to play themselves. Thus, real events become the material for a film in which the characters reenact what happened to them.
