The laboratory “When I Forget Everything — I Begin to Remember” is dedicated to artistic and research methods for working with personal, familial, and discovered archival materials. It brings together artists from any discipline, curators, activists, journalists, anthropologists, and anyone interested in exploring the theme of memory. The laboratory is led by Lilit Matevosyan, an artist and researcher whose projects focus on the regions of the Southern and Northwestern Caucasus and explore local history and memory. She is a co-founder of the self-organization “Aerarium” (Sochi), a recipient of the Garage Museum grant program (2022), and a participant in the Museum’s “Field Research” program (2023–2024).
The program includes lectures and sessions with guest instructors: artist Arkhip Labakhua (Sukhum), contemporary art researcher Tatyana Mironova (Moscow), curator Elena Ishchenko (Hamburg), and artist-researcher Hanna Zubkova (Paris). The laboratory concludes with a presentation of participants’ projects, combining artistic practice and research-based approaches to explore memory and local history.
The laboratory is supported by Amshra Foundation.
