Ultima Thule is a phantom island. It was first mentioned by the ancient Greek geographer Pytheas. No one knows for sure which land the Greek described. Sailors returned with stories about Ultima Thule, about wars with a tribe of dwarfs, a frozen sea and a shining polar star - but was it really this island? It is a mystical, imaginary land that appeared on maps for hundreds of years. It existed, yet it did not.

The exhibition explored various relationships with ‘nonexistent’ (or ‘other’) worlds: some based on elusiveness, others on escapism and some requiring active engagement and manifestation in reality. The conversation about the utopian, fairy tales and dreams concluded with a story about protests in modern Abkhazia. The artists remain realists, therefore demanding the impossible.

The exhibition was achieved with the support of Amshra Charitable Foundation.
