This joint exhibition by photographers Alan Vobua and Tengiz Tarba combined the well-established classical art genre of landscape with the practice of mountain hiking. Using the metaphor of a ‘painting as a window onto the world,’ the artists brought hiking gear into the exhibition space and playfully invited viewers to move from passive observation to active participation.
Aiming to popularise mountain tourism, the photographers showed that in Abkhazia it is not just a form of leisure but also an opportunity to connect more deeply with one’s identity. They demonstrated the link between nature and culture, both of which equally shape the character of the region.
