Following the tradition of socially critical Russian cinema - with its long meditative shots and portrayals of ‘superfluous people’ - Noise balances between documentary realism and an effort to turn a small slice of reality into a sweeping metaphor.
The film explores the patriarchal order, gender stereotypes and everyday sexism that remain prevalent in contemporary Abkhazia.
After the screening, a discussion was held with director and photographer Alex Avidzba.
Noise was directed by Daur Ladaria in 2021 as part of the Moscow School of New Cinema.
