Journalist and documentary filmmaker Graziano Graziani shared his experience researching micronations. Micronations are small self-proclaimed states that are not recognised by other countries and international organisations. These informal and often unofficial entities may be created for various reasons, such as expressing political views, cultural identities or simply as creative projects.
Through absurd and sometimes humorous stories, Graziani explored the mechanisms behind the creation of national identity. Together with the audience at the cultural platform SKLAD_, he reflected on concepts such as ‘independence’, ‘self-determination’ and ‘political legitimacy’, aiming to deconstruct the nature of the international legal status known as an ‘unrecognised state’.
